Clio Grow AI

Clio Grow AI or a managed AI front desk?

Clio added AI intake agents to Clio Grow in August 2026. Here's what they do, from Clio's own help center, and where a managed desk does something different.

The short answer. Yes, Clio has its own AI for intake. Grow AI, inside Clio Grow, answers phone calls when your team is unavailable, replies to emails and website chats, screens leads against the criteria you set, and books consultations, and Clio charges for each matter you hire with its help. If you're on Clio Grow and want to set it up yourselves, start there. A managed desk like ours answers every call, is built and run for you, and works with Filevine and Litify too.

What Grow AI does

Clio announced Grow AI on 20 August 2026, as reported by LawNext. According to Clio's help center, it has three agents: a voice agent for phone calls (US only), an email agent and a website chat tool. Each one gathers contact and case details, produces a fit assessment against your practice areas and the places you serve, flags potential conflicts for your review, and can book a consultation through Clio Scheduler. It also follows up on leads with an incomplete form, an unsigned agreement or an unbooked consultation.

The voice agent, in Clio's words, "answers inbound calls when your team is unavailable". Calls reach it after hours or when your lines are busy, through call forwarding to a number Clio assigns.

How a firm sets it up

An administrator sets it up in Clio Grow, under Settings and then Grow AI. Grow AI can read your website and suggest intake criteria. For each practice area you pick the details to collect from a list (name, email, phone, a summary and the location are always collected), add up to 10 locations you serve, and turn booking on with an appointment type. You edit a starter set of questions and answers, choose the languages, and pick the voice, the greeting and whether the agent says it's AI. A test panel lets you try email, phone and chat before you go live (Clio help center).

How Grow AI charges

Clio bills Grow AI by results: a charge for each matter your firm hires that Grow AI helped with, and nothing for leads that don't convert. New firms get a free trial covering a set number of hires. You can set a monthly hiring target, and once it's met, Grow AI pauses until the next billing cycle. Clio notes that the target isn't a billing cap, because matters already in progress can still be hired and charged (Clio help center).

Which one fits

Grow AI makes sense for a firm already living in Clio Grow, with staff who answer during the day and someone happy to own the setup. It's native to the system you use, and you only pay when a matter's hired. A managed desk makes more sense when you want every call answered by the same desk, you want urgent calls pushed to a person straight away, your firm is on Filevine or Litify, or nobody in the office has time to build and tune intake. Each of our desks has a live demo line you can ring: injury, criminal defense and immigration.

Using both

If you're on Clio, the desk writes every matter into Clio with the recording, the transcript and a disposition, so Clio Grow stays your system of record. Some firms will want Clio's tools for follow-up and ours on the phones, and that works.
